Beware of those who don’t know what they’re talking about…

A UKIP candidate in South Belfast spent much of the various hustings events suggesting that, when it came to the EU, the UK could be “like Sweden”.

Now even the DUP First Minister suggested, clearly from the context of a reply to the Ulster Unionist Leader in the Assembly this week, that the UK could consider the “Swedish model”.

Which is odd, because Sweden has been in the EU since 1995…

  1. korhomme says:

I’ve often found that people confuse Sweden and Switzerland.

  2. I’m sure UKIP loves Sweden’s migration policy, military neutrality and generous welfare system.

  3. Obviously the date has not yet been confirmed for the referendum but the ‘dogs on the street’ are saying that it will be in about 4 months’ time.
I am one of those who finds myself sitting on the fence in the referendum debate. I am waiting very patiently for the advocates of the ‘stay in’ campaign to explain the benefits to me. I don’t want nonsensical statements like the one you have just quoted. I don’t want to listen to speeches making broad-brush bullet points. I want written hardcore scholarly analysis that demonstrates cause and effect and addresses the issues raised by those who are campaigning for Brexit.
The question is, where am I going to find that information?
